    Chihuahuas tend to have a "clannish" nature, often preferring the companionship of other Chihuahuas over other dogs. Chihuahuas also seem to have no concept of their own size and may fearlessly confront larger animals, which can result in injury.

    Originalmente se creía que los chihuahuas eran descendientes de una antigua, similar pero un tanto más grande raza asociada con la realeza en la civilización azteca conocida como Techichi. De cualquier manera, debido a la falta de restos arqueológicos ahora se cree que los chihuahuas fueron traídos a México por conquistadores españoles.

    La teoría más reciente sostiene que mercaderes españoles llevaron perros chihuahua a España mediante sus rutas de comercio con China y de ahí a México. La práctica documentada de reducir de tamaño tanto plantas como animales en China es la base de a teoría que dice que los chihuahuas se originaron ahí.

    Los chihuahuas fueron llevados a Estados Unidos por visitantes norteamericanos en México.
