Portraits are a celebration of life, we capture a moment in time for posterity. Portraiture is a representation and a legacy;  it is a bridge between generations. A younger generation would find easier to identify with an ancestor seeing his image, generally at the same age they are.

Portrait artists try to convey not only the physical likeness, but the personality of the subject. In general, a Portrait is better painted from life. Sometimes the person is not available, and it has to be done with fewer sitting and reference images as photos or video.

Another option is to create a sculpture, a Portrait bust, and from there create the Portrait painting.

What is the best age for a child Portrait? In genral any age that could capture that fleeting moment in time. Our customers have chosen from new born to any age for a child Portrait.

When you commission your Portrait, try to think how would you like the future generations to see you.

For a family portrait try to dress and have your hair in a classical style that will not date the portrait studios. Think that your grandchildren and great grandchildren  will be able to identify with you. Instead of a cold picture, they will see a vibrant, lively portrait that will pass from generation to generation without fading.

A portrait painting can last hundreds of years. Family portraits are cherised by many generations. A contemporary portrait can be, classical or Renaissance style. When commissioning a family portrait with several children, some thought should be given about having all the portraits in one canvas. In general you want to keep your portrait as a child and it may not be possible if you have all your siblings in the same family portrait.
